HISTORY OF CARPETS OF IRAN
The art of weaving hand-knotted carpets and kilims in Iran has a rich and ancient history that spans thousands of years. Iranian carpets are renowned for their exquisite craftsmanship, intricate designs, and vibrant colors. The tradition of carpet weaving in Iran is deeply rooted in the culture and has been passed down through generations.
The origins of Persian carpet weaving can be traced back to ancient times. The earliest evidence of carpet weaving in the region dates back to the Bronze Age, around 2500 BCE. Excavations in the ancient city of Persepolis, founded by Darius the Great, have revealed artifacts and depictions of people engaged in carpet weaving. It is believed that the art of carpet weaving flourished during the Achaemenid Empire (550–330 BCE).
During the Safavid dynasty (1501–1736), the art of carpet weaving reached its pinnacle.
